So, we have some news….
We’re SO EXCITED – yes, even Leighton! – to welcome Baby Oakley #3 into our family this August! Excited, and maybe a little crazy. Life with THREE is bound to be an adventure, that’s for sure!
Gracyn is thrilled and we made the honest mistake of telling her right away. For some reason I had it set in my mind that the first people to “know” about the baby should be the girls so we sat them down and explained what was happening. It’s now the very first thing she tells people, including strangers at the store – “there’s a baby in my mom’s tummy!” She even spilled the beans to my mom and dad THE SECOND they walked in the door to celebrate Christmas with us! Surprise ruined but oh well! #thirdchildproblems
She asks to “see” the baby every day. I have The Bump app on my phone that has a little 3D interactive tool that shows what the baby looks like every week. She’s obsessed with that thing.
Leighton will point to my tummy when we ask where the baby is. That’s about as far as her reasoning goes, I think!

I found out the day before Leighton’s 2nd birthday (December 16th) and am now 11 weeks along. We had an appointment on Monday and got to hear the babe’s quick little heartbeat.
Best sound ever. I wish I could listen to it all day, every day.
I know a lot of people wait until the magic 12-week mark to announce (we’re almost there!) but I can no longer hide the baby belly…
Third pregnancies be like….
…whoa.
There it is. Ain’t no denying that one.
The stick turned pink and literally the next day my body was all, “heyyyyy! here’s your baby.” Aside from being sick on Christmas day, which was actual sickness and not baby related, I’ve been feeling pretty good so far. I was feeling super bloated and extra frumpy early on and the only things I want to eat are either bags of candy (damn you, holiday goodies. and leftover birthday treats. and Valentine’s day themed gummy sweet tarts…) or apples.
It’s all about balance, really. 😉
I’m tired – always – and if I sit down on the couch to rest for a minute I find myself not moving for, like, 3 hours. I can also no longer stand the smell of pretzels, broccoli and/or cauliflower and I can detect Justin’s toothpaste, deodorant and Red Bull Vodkas from across the room. Pregnancy heightened sense of smell is no joke. I’m constantly walking around the house yelling, “what STINKS in here?!” while my family just stares at me…
Come summer, I’ll be a hot, sweaty beast begging for a cold beer but it’ll all be worth it. I’m already wondering who this little person inside me is and whether its a boy or girl. I’m betting on another girl only because I was convinced the other two were boys and this pregnancy has been basically identical to the others so far. We opted not to do the early testing at 10 weeks so we’ll find out at the normal anatomy scan as long as everything continues to go as planned!
We can’t wait to add another baby to the bunch and are praying he/she continues to grow nice and strong!
We filmed telling the girls, G didn’t really get it at first and Leighton-badger don’t care… Gracyn was adamant about the baby being a girl named “Lucy” but has since changed her tune. She now wants a brother named “Prince”…
Fast forward to 1:20 to see it finally click!
